South African artist, Percy Maimela chronicles the journey of a young female Shepherd into womanhood.
Percy's art has an evident element of storytelling and symbolism which plays an important role in how he depicts the underlying experiences of his subjects. Thus, the Shepherd is depicted as a powerful emancipated woman.
Mainly consisting of acrylic paint, pastel and charcoal drawings, Percy’s’ works are known to share a socially conscious message centred around the experiences of black women and girls in society.
